Science Olympiad Team 3rd in NYS!

The Murphy Science Olympiad Team competed 4/30- 5/1 at the NY State competition held at SUNY New Paltz. The team was victorious coming in 3rd out of 48 teams. Before the event they stopped off for a hike at Lake Minnewaska State Park and lunch along with our sister team from Gelinas.


Murphy Science Bowl Team competes in DC!

The R.C. Murphy Science Bowl Team are shown here receiving a check for $1,000 from Dr. Chu, the Secretary of Energy for achieving 5th place in the nation in the National Middle School Science Bowl competition. The competition was held this past weekend April 29th- May 3rd in Washington D.C. Our First lady Michelle Obama was on hand to read questions for the final competition and she also spoke to the students about the country’s need for their hard work and dedication to math and science. The students are from left Harrison Li, Akilesh Tangella, Felix Wang, Daniel Redlinger and Raymond Yin. Way to go Murphy!!


RCM Science Bowl Team takes FIRST!!

March 6th, RCM had two teams enter the Regional Science Bowl at Brookhaven National Laboratory. There were 28 teams representing various schools across LI. Our team placed 1st in the academic competition and will represent our region at the National competition at the end of April in Washington D.C. It was a great experience for our students!

Congratulations to Murphy's math team who competed in the Suffolk County Math Tournament on Friday, January 8. From left to right, Harrison Li, Joanna Jin, Gloria Zheng, Michelle Liao, and Luran He placed first in the county in the team event. In the individual competition, Luran He placed first and Harrison Li and Michelle Liao tied for second place.

RCM Future Business Leaders!
RCM Business Students are presented with their 3rd & 4th place awards in Computer Applications from the Long Island Business Teachers’ Association contest on Tuesday, April 20. Murphy was the only school to have two winners out of 240 students from 17 LI districts in 13 different categories.


HONORABLE MENTION!

RCM 8th grade honors student; Akilesh Tangella, presented his science research project at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair at Crest Hollow Country Club. His project title was “ How can Robots help Agriculture?” He received an honorable mention certificate. Congratulations to Akilesh on a job well done.

RCM Leader's Club visited two historical NY sports venues on January 22, 2010. The new Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden welcomed 50 student/athletes from Murphy to explore and enjoy the facilities. The trip allowed students to live a dream of being a professional athlete. The group toured the famous facilities and heard discussions of history, teamwork and personal responsibility.
