Wood SystemsThe 9th grade Wood Systems elective is a twenty-week course, designed to introduce students
to woodworking through hands-on projects focusing on design and craftsmanship. Various topics in
Woodworking and Production along with Energy and Power will be explored by students.
This half-credit course fulfills a Technology requirement for the Systems part of the NYS (five credits)
Unit Sequence in Technology.
Proper woodworking techniques, machine use, power and hand tool use, joinery concepts and history,
in addition to an emphasis on safety within the lab will be the core content of the curriculum. All topics
will include research, design, problem solving and a hands-on, fine motor skill developing, approach to
learning. In addition, this course is designed to reinforce and apply knowledge from other subject areas
such as: Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Language Arts
