Technology 7 (20 weeks) and
Technology 8 (15 weeks) The Introduction to
Technology Program presents a broad view of technology. The study of
technological systems includes: biotechnology, information and
communications, production, and transportation. Concepts which are
fundamental to all systems (input, process, output, and feedback)
are studied and used on a variety of projects. Through the use of
these basic systems concepts students will be able to see the
similarities which exist among all technological systems. This
provides them with a tool that may be used to analyze familiar
technologies as well as help interpret those that may be unfamiliar.
Technology education emphasizes through hands-on activities the
following areas: technological systems which people use to solve
problems, systems impact on humans and the environment, and human
responsibility in the development and control of
technology.
Complementing the existing tech labs, the
ScanTEK lab uses computer-based, multimedia modules with specialized
equipment to teach introductory lessons in thirteen different
modules. The topics investigated are: Aerodynamics, Alternative
Energy, Automotive Systems, Basic Electricity, Computer
Applications, Computer-Aided Design, Computer-Aided Publishing, CNC Micromill, Construction
Technology, Graphics and Animation, Multimedia Production, Navigation/GPS, Pneumatics,
Research and Design, and Space Technology.
