Courses:
Technology 7 and 8; Technology Systems, and Technology Foundations

Instructors:   Derek Angermaier, Peter Campbell, and Robert Gessner

Technology 7 (20 weeks) and Technology 8 (15 weeks)
The Introduction to Technology Program presents a broad view of technology. The study of technological systems includes: biotechnology, information and communications, production, and transportation. Concepts which are fundamental to all systems (input, process, output, and feedback) are studied and used on a variety of projects. Through the use of these basic systems concepts students will be able to see the similarities which exist among all technological systems. This provides them with a tool that may be used to analyze familiar technologies as well as help interpret those that may be unfamiliar. Technology education emphasizes through hands-on activities the following areas: technological systems which people use to solve problems, systems impact on humans and the environment, and human responsibility in the development and control of technology.

Complementing the existing tech labs, the ScanTEK lab uses computer-based, multimedia modules with specialized equipment to teach introductory lessons in thirteen different modules. The topics investigated are: Aerodynamics, Alternative Energy, Automotive Systems, Basic Electricity, Computer Applications, Computer-Aided Publishing, CNC Micromill, Construction Technology, Multimedia Production, Navigation/GPS, Pneumatics, Research and Design, and Space Technology.

Ninth Grade Elective Program

Technology Systems
This course fulfills the Technology requirement for Systems. Each topic covered includes research and problem solving skills. Projects completed will become part of the student portfolio and cover the areas of: Woodworking and Production, Energy and Power, and Communications. This is a half-credit elective.

Technology Foundations
This course fulfills the Technology requirement for Foundations. Each topic covered includes research and problem solving skills. Topics developed become part of the student portfolio and cover the areas of: Basic Electricity/Electronics, Technical Drawing and Drafting, and Introduction to Robotics. This is a half-credit elective.
