The Murphy Guidance Staff is looking forward to another positive and healthy year for the students and staff.
We welcomed our new staff to the building on September 16, 2011 with a breakfast and education on how our department operates. Towards the end of September we had 7th grade Guidance Orientation. Groups of 7th graders came to the office and they met each staff member and we explained the roles of the counselor, social worker and psychologist. We challenged every 7th grader to make a guidance appointment to get to know their counselor.
Starting in October we are beginning our 4 year plans with every 8th grader and their parents. We encourage parents to take advantage of these meetings as they are an opportunity to become educated about the New York State graduation requirements. These meetings will take place through the spring.
High school scheduling will take place early this winter. After Thanksgiving, the advisors for P.A.C.T., Student Government and INSTAR will be visiting the 9th graders to review their application processes. The guidance staff will be meeting with each 9th grader in January and February to assist them with their course selections. Scheduling for the current 6th, 7th and 8th graders will take place in the spring. We are looking to complete all scheduling for the 2012-2013 school year by March 31, 2012.
Our department meets with students regularly and we are beginning our groups now. We will be monitoring our students academically and socially. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the department immediately. |
