Murphy JHS Art Electives

Studio IN Art

(20 weeks)   ½ credit
In this half-year course students will learn new techniques with several mediums including pencil, charcoal pencil, color pencil, pastels, oil crayons, acrylic paint, pen and ink, and collage. Color theory is explored through the use of art reproductions used to generate student's own interests of study.  Themes such as landscapes, still life's, animals, non-objective art, portraits, nature, and music are explored. 

Creative Crafts

(20 weeks)   ½ credit  
This course provides an introduction to the basic crafts areas of ceramics, paper machete sculpture, jewelry, leather, fibers, and fabrics.  Basic techniques are taught and students are able to create functional projects suitable for their own use or as gifts.  Drawing techniques and design concepts are included for easy application by students in the creation of their projects.

Media Arts

(20 weeks)   ½ credit  
In this course students will learn how the manual 35mm camera works, how to develop black and white film, and will develop prints in the darkroom.  In addition to traditional photography, students will use advanced computer programs such as Photoshop, to create digital images.  Students also become familiar with the use of external computer equipment such as the scanner and digital cameras.   A wide range of projects will require students to become proficient with digital imaging and graphic design techniques.  During this course students also begin to explore the process of digital video editing.
