The Family and Consumer Science department believes that students have a right to an education that not only includes academics but the practical application of knowledge to the real world and the time to practice skills useful in their family and work lives.  We strive to prepare our students to be active and important members of their family and community.  Our mission is enable students to be competent, confident and caring in managing their personal, family and work lives.

Walking With Pedometers

Teachers received a grant which allowed them to purchase pedometers for use by the students. The students learned the benefits of daily activity and food intake in relation to their health.

Milk Mustaches

Students participated in national nutrition month and tasted milkshakes to increase student’s awareness of the importance of calcium in their diets.

Senior Citizen Dinner

All classes participate in preparing and serving a complete meal to three hundred senior citizens in the spring each year.

Community Service

Students make pillows which were donated to a local hospital for patients who have undergone surgery.

Home and Careers Club

Students in this club participate in numerous community service projects throughout the year. Past project have included quilts, pinwheels, and cookies which were donated to various charitable services.

Entrepreneurship

Students in the careers classes participate in a pretzel business to learn how a business functions, marketing and finance.

Cooking Labs

Students participate in preparing and enjoying delicious foods in the seventh, eighth and ninth grade classes
