The Art Club will focus on developing both individual talent and cooperative projects to help beautify the halls of Murphy. Students will focus on individual and group projects as well as exposure to various opportunities in art and cultural connections.

ECOLOGY CLUB

Meetings are on Tuesdays until 3:55 p.m. in Room 106.
This club will give students an opportunity to study, create, and maintain bird and plant ecosystems. We will grow a school community garden, build bird houses and learn how to grow plants in our greenhouse and courtyard gardens.
GET A VOICE CLUB

Meets Thursdays in Room 305, 2:30 until 3:55 p.m.       
The Get A Voice Club will helps teens to be leaders and make a difference… and to have fun doing so! If you’re interested in participating in leadership events, being part of addressing teasing and bullying, negotiating friendships, and taking action to make our school community even better, join us!

GIRLS SELECT CHOIR

Club will meet on Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Chorus Room 2.
Chorus selected by audition only. Students will perform three to five times a year at various concerts and special events. Made up of 30 - 40 7th, 8th and 9th grade students.

Students will be selected based upon Academic Performance in Global 7, 8, and 9. Students will act as peer tutors, work on Global Language Week ,have an induction ceremony in May, and promote languages district-wide.
HOME & CAREERS CLUB

Meetings are on Tuesdays in Room 301 until 3:55 p.m.

This club provides the students the opportunity to become active members of the community through cooking, sewing, knitting, and other “hands-on” activities.
JHS MUSICAL PRODUCTION
MR. POLLERA
Rehearsals start in January and continue through March. Culminates with 6 performances.
R. C. Murphy J.H.S. musical production is open to all 7th, 8th and 9th grade students. We rehearse Monday through Friday 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the auditorium. Over 300 students participate in all aspects of musical theatre, from stage acting to production.

8th and 9th grade athletes do community/volunteer service in the school and community throughout the school year. Some activities include a toy drive, food drive, and blood drive.
MAKING HISTORY CLUB

Meets Wednesdays at 2:45 in RM 201
Students will study and research US history events, then create “Making History” movies to be used as a resource in 7th and 8th grade history classes. A trip is planned to Boston and/or Washington DC.
MOVING UP DAY COORDINATOR

See Description Students work alongside staff and parents to plan and coordinate the 9th grade Moving Up Ceremony. The group will go from planning to execution of every facet related to the event. Meeting times vary, meets in Chorus room I.
MURPHY HERITAGE CLUB
MR EHLERS
Meetings Tuesdays at 2:40 in room 202. Members will learn about and enjoy the heritage of the Three Village Area. Topics include local Native American heritage, Three Village shipbuilding, as well as George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring. A variety of activities will be implemented such as field studies, debate, and public service projects

Meetings are every Tuesday in Room 219 until 3:55 p.m.
Groups of students interested in mathematics answer challenging questions and formulate solutions to mathematical problems. The teams are open to all students with an interest in mathematics who are willing to meet on a weekly basis and to compete with other schools once a month in formal competition.

We are a club that fosters a love of reading. Students select the books we read (with my approval) and we do projects for the library to promote certain books. This year, we will be opening our doors to budding writers.
NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY

Meetings are on alternating Thursdays in room 305, 2:30-3:50pm. This club will foster excellence and a dedicated spirit to the pursuit of art, inspire and recognize student who have shown outstanding ability in art and academic areas, and further students’ aesthetic and academic abilities.
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY

Community service organization. Membership is based on academic standing for two years at Murphy. We have the students assist at all school events, Open School Night, Awards Night; Meet the Teacher Night (conferences), etc.

Students will learn the art of journalistic writing by capturing the school’s thoughts and events. This will not only foster a love of writing, but build school spirit as well.
RCM JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Rehearsals are on Tuesdays until 3:55 pm in the auditorium.
The Jazz ensemble consists of instrumental music students who play the trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, bass guitar/acoustic bass, guitar and drum set. Program content contains the study of jazz idiom's musical elements, including an introduction to improvisation.

Meets Fridays at 2:45 in room 205 The club will entertain at several school functions and raise money for charity through a benefit concert.
SCIENCE BOWL CLUB

Meetings are on Wednesdays, at 2:45 in room 222.
The Science Bowl Clubs goals are twofold- 1) to select and prepare a team or teams to compete in a Jeopardy-style competition that covers all areas of science and math. 2) To design, build, and test a hydrogen fuel cell car to compete at the Regional competition. The overall goal is to make students interested in going into Energy Research.

The club meets Thursdays after school in Room 218 until 3:55 p.m.
Students will develop and work on a series of individual and team interscholastic competitions. These events encourage learning in biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and problem-solving technology. In February, students will participate in the Regional Science Olympiad.
SET DESIGN CLUB

Meetings TBA Teach students how to design, build and choreograph sets and scenery for school shows and events. Club meets throughout the year during set-designing and building times, which includes Saturdays and evenings and may meet up to 8 hours at a time. Students will explore avenues in technology such as production and process. Activities will include, wood crafts, computer graphics/animation, rocketry and metal working.

A select, small vocal ensemble that meets in the evening to prepare for special events where they will perform: September 11th memorial, Cabaret Night, Honor Society, Global Language Honor Society, Moving Up day, etc.

Student Government is an organization which strives to enhance the overall school experience for the students of Murphy. Through various events and fundraisers the participants develop leadership skills, civic mindedness, and an awareness of our community at large.

The Bluegrass Club allows string students to experience a style of music that is quite different from Classical music. Bluegrass music has many influences, including Country Western music, American Folk music and Scottish and Irish Folk music. This group traditionally performs at the Senior Citizen Breakfast and the Spring Concert.

The Yearbook Club is comprised of students actively involved in all aspects of the preparation of the annual yearbook Reflections. Yearbook club is open to all 7th, 8th and 9th grade students who can work Tuesdays after school in Room 112 until 3:55 p.m. Activities will include: hands-on designing, digital photography, laying out pages on Josten’s Yearbook website.
