CONGRATULATIONS on a GREAT SHOW!

As a part of the 8th grade Holocaust Unit of Study, community member and Holocaust survivor, Werner Reich, visited Murphy on March 19th. Mr. Reich displayed images of his life growing up during a time of tragic genocide. He presented with the help of Murphy 9th grader, Daniel Brown, who worked with Mr. Reich over the summer to enhance his presentation. Upon meeting Mr. Reich last year, Daniel was so moved by his dedication to creating an awareness of the Holocaust experience, that he offered to help Mr. Reich develop his oral presentation by adding a visual, technology based component. Mr. Reich reminded Murphy 8th graders that they are in a position to prompt a commitment to resist discrimination and intolerance. He encouraged students to seek out possibility beyond incomprehensible tragedies of the past and perhaps offer the world novelty, tolerance and peace.

This year at RCM we tried a new project as part of our 9th grade science research class - the NASA Exploring Space Challenges. Four students in the 9th grade did research on designing an enclosed habitat to conduct a real scientific experiment, something that could have significance for living on the Moon. The students were: Aditii Malhotra, Jonelle Peterson, Roxane Javadi and Esme Ricciardi. They researched how best to make plants grow on the Lunar base. They had a teleconference during class with scientists from NASA who helped to guide and evaluate their research. The certificates were in recognition of their efforts in this National Science Challenge.

The Fifth Annual Murphy Cabaret Night to benefit the Murphy PTO was held on Friday, October 26th.  More than 550 community member guests were treated to a fabulous dinner, catered by Fratelli's and served by 75 Murphy student waiter and waitresses.  Assisted by faculty members of the Music & Consumer Sciences departments and the Student Government association the night went off without a hitch.  More impressive was the fact that the audience included more than 80 teachers and administrators who came out to support this great event.  Following dinner, audiences were treated to a variety show performed by more than 200 students in the Murphy Theater Group. This Cabaret Night was the most successful in Murphy history no doubt because of all the support and generosity of the Murphy family.  Congratulations to all involved.
